Praise
Paterson Literary Review | 2021
Janine’s poem “Praise,” a replacement poem influenced by Ilya Kaminsky’s poem of the same name from his collection titled Dancing in Odessa, was chosen as an Editor’s Choice for the 2020 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award. Her poem appeared in Issue 49 of PLR, released in February 2021.
The speaker explores immigrating from rural Romania to the busy streets of Clifton, NJ as a younger version of her Oma, beginning with the young grandmother’s struggle to learn English.
The Paterson Literary Review is “an anthology of poets and fiction writers both famous and new…[that] publishes real work for real people” (Poets&Writers) and was recognized by the Library of Congress as one of the ten best literary journals in the country.

Into the Pan
Edible Jersey | 2020
Janine’s first food poem “Into the Pan” debuted in the spring edition of Edible Jersey. The speaker chronicles the mythical journey of a slice of steak being sacrificed by a faction of wooden Valkyries to a crackling cast iron skillet.
Copies of the magazine can be found at local breweries, farm stands, and groceries in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
January 8th, 2010
Past Ten | 2020
Janine’s debut flash memoir creative nonfiction essay “January 8th” appeared at Past Ten in January 2020. In this piece, the narrator reflects on her personal transformation over ten years, after two serious accidents that nearly took her life.

New Jersey’s Best Emerging Poets

Janine’s poem “Mythically Alive” appeared in Z Publishing’s emerging writers series anthology titled New Jersey’s Best Emerging Poets in August 2019. The speaker of the poem ponders the death of a classmate, post 9/11/01, wondering if their classmate really died or just moved away, and how they stay alive, mythically, in the minds of their classmates after they’ve left.

New Jersey Bards Northwest Poetry Review
Local Gem Press | 2019
Janine’s poem “September Bouquets” was released in the April 2019 edition of New Jersey Bards Northwest Poetry Review. The speaker of the poem is a fourth grade boy who chooses a flower for his teacher, but realizes that his choice is made in haste because he is really seeking a kindness that he doesn’t receive at home.
The anthology features poets from Hunterdon, Warren, and Sussex counties in New Jersey. Copies of the review are available for sale on Amazon.

New Jersey’s Best Emerging Poets

Janine’s poem “If I Admit” appeared in Z Publishing’s emerging writers series anthology titled New Jersey’s Best Emerging Poets in January 2018. The speaker of the poem experiences a panic attack in New York which triggers their memory including one broken to a dead friend. The poem captures the NY landscape as it moves the reader through the stanzas.

Trillium
Ramapo College of New Jersey | 2014
Janine’s poems “Because of W.H. Auden’s Funeral Blues” and “New DriveWays” first appeared in RCNJ’s literary magazine Trillium in the Spring of 2014, when she was a graduating Senior. Each poem centers around the speakers relationship with death, and are considered elegies.

Janine’s poems “Lack Luster Town” and “80” appeared in Centenary University’s literary magazine in the Spring of 2014. These poems discuss the ideologies of Richard Hugo’s “The Triggering Town” as they explore the downfall of a town drunk.

Warren County Community College | 2013
Janine’s poem “Intentional Accidents” appeared in WCCC’s literary magazine in the Spring of 2013. This poem describes the loss of innocence through the eyes of a child experiencing both, their parents divorce and a car accident.
